Inlays and onlays repair teeth weakened by decay or fracture with laboratory-made restorations that match the tooth. Aesthetic fillings are made with tooth-coloured materials.
Who may be suitable?
- Teeth with large cavities or deteriorated old fillings
- Cases where preserving more tooth tissue is preferred over a crown (assessed by the dentist)
How does the process work?
- The condition of the tooth is assessed with an examination and X-ray.
- Decay is removed and the tooth is prepared.
- An impression or scan is taken for the inlay/onlay; a temporary filling may be placed while it is made.
- The finished restoration is bonded and the bite is checked.
After treatment and care
Cleaning around filled teeth is important. Short-term sensitivity may occur after treatment; tell your dentist if it persists. Regular check-ups help monitor fillings.
The information on this page is for general purposes only; an examination is required for diagnosis and treatment. Treatment plans are determined by the dentist according to each patient's condition.
